Martin Ursell

Associate (previous principle from 1984-2010)

Martin started his dental career as a Royal Navy Dental Officer in 1974. This five year commission involved Shore and Sea service with several Clinical attachments in the periodontal departments at Guy's Hospital Dental School and The Eastman Dental Hospital, London.

Thereafter he entered General Dental Practice, with a progressively increasing emphasis on providing periodontal care for patients together with a range of restorative treatment, including crown and bridgework, endodontic and minor oral surgery procedures.

From 1982-1984 he did an MSc course in Periodontology at the University of London, based in the periodontal department of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. He then was a Clinical demonstrator at Guy's for one day per week from 1979 -1998.

Martin was one of the first individuals in the United Kingdom to be accredited as a Specialist in Periodontics in August 1998.

Martin started a Periodontal Referral Practice in Southampton (later known as Periosouth now located in Hursley, Winchester) in 1982. The practice was started de novo, initially single handed, for 2-3 days per week. There has been progressive expansion, from a part-time single-handed referral practice, to 5 days per week of clinical practice with three full-time equivalent dental hygienists. Richard Tucker took over the practice in January 2010. Thereafter, Martin has continued on a part-time basis within the Practice.
